This might 'bee' a little late but...

I just loved these photos we took of Craig at the Capital District Spelling Bee at Proctor's Theater in March. Grandma and Grandpa Maughan as well as Aunt Nancy and Uncle Andy joined Scott, James and me to watch Craig take 2nd place in the entire Capital Region. Even Melissa (away at college) was part of the action as Scott texted her with the results of each round. Anyhow, I finally got around to scrapping the photos after being in a scrapping lull these past couple of months. (Guess where I got the idea for the blog theme?)

Track photo junkie

[Disclaimer: if you aren't a photography nut like me, you might want to skip this post.]

Really, I'm not sure I can admit how many photos I take at a track meet and still respect myself. My excuse used to be that I had to shoot a lot so I could be sure some would be in focus. (YOU try photographing kids whipping by you!) But my new Nikon D300 just seems to know exactly what I want to focus on and there are hardly any pictures to discard for this reason. Now, I just love being able to play with my 200mm or 300mm zoom lenses, figure out where to stand to get the best lighting, shoot on Continuous mode so that I can pick my favorite expression, etc. I know, I know... it's a disease! *Ü*

(Just fyi, these pictures were taken at Sectionals this week, with Burnt Hills taking 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the 3200m race and going on to win the meet.)

Perfect Picnic

It was so beautiful today that I'm willing to believe spring is finally here. We had absolutely perfect weather for our family's first NY Stake Memorial Day picnic today. Sunny skies, warm temps and a nice breeze mixed with yummy food and good friends for a fun time for our entire family. After eating, Craig enjoyed a game of kickball with some of the boys, Scott joined the ultimate frisbee game which included players of all ages, Melissa and her cheering squad sat on the sidelines and yelled when any of the young men had the frisbee, James watched the game, and I wandered around with camera in hand. It's too bad that a bright, sunny day is practically the kiss of death to a good photo. Ah, well - I'm willing to make that sacrifice!
